Sweeten’s Top Renovating Neighborhoods

Our annual report on remodeling hotspots

(AboveClick here to see which neighborhoods in the boroughs are renovating the most.

Sweeten, a free service that matches renovators with general contractors, works on thousands of projects across the greater New York City area, New Jersey, and counties in Philadelphia and Connecticut. Based on the renovation projects we see through our own platform, we identified the top renovation neighborhoods, by comparing data from 2018 to 2017. We breakdown some highlights below, but here’s our full list of the top neighborhoods in New York City.

In Bushwick, Brooklyn, the renovation pace doubled (we’re looking at you, former L Train shutdown), while remodeling projects boomed in Long Island City (perhaps with the news of Amazon’s once-pending arrival). The Upper East and West sides secured their high spots on the list (those Classic 6 apartments won’t renovate themselves!). Riverdale is coming in at #1 in the Bronx, knocking High Bridge to #3 in the area.

On Long Island, Sweeten’s footprint continues to grow across Suffolk and Nassau Counties. Meanwhile, in Westchester, there was a big spike in renovations in Bronxville, White Plains, and Yonkers (though Pelham is still in the #1 spot!).

Homeowners in the Philadelphia neighborhoods of Bella Vista & Queen Village are getting down to some serious renovation business. In New Jersey, Bergen and Essex counties are seeing greater renovation reach too. (To be fair, Sweeten just launched in ALL New Jersey counties, so our data is limited.) In Connecticut, Greenwich and Westport are head-to-head—we’ll have to see who prevails next year.

As Sweeten expands into neighboring cities (and spoiler alert, to new cities across the country) we’ll continue to observe where and why homeowners are deciding to renovate—and we’ll be there for them when they’re ready to get started on their renovation journey.
