Each week we visit a member of Sweeten network to check out what they are working on. This week we’re with Ishka Designs. Anishka & Niya, interior design partners & founders of Ishka Designs, are in the construction phase of a 4,000 sqft medical facility in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Working in close collaboration with the client, a medical doctor who offers holistic healing services, the designers will bring this facility well beyond the ‘traditional’ by addressing the needs of a holistic design approach. They are utilizing spatial devices such as light, materials, plantings, sensors, etc., to create a clean, ambient environment for the new facility.
Anishka & Niya give warm greetings in the light-flooded reception space.
Curved walls help to draw ambient, natural light into the project’s deeper spaces.
When daylight is not available, the designers planned for a system of layered lighting so that the ambience can be maintained.
Here the designers show off samples of wallpaper, textiles & stone that will be used to furnish the reception areas. They will also use plantings, wall art & mood-music to complete the desired effect.
More light at the end of the tunnel – an enclosed stairway leads to the facility’s executive areas.
The site’s history of therapeutic service is revealed … a mural on the exterior of the building signals its previous use, “The Beer House” !
