Full Kitchen RenovationPosted by Sanaya K. in Prospect Heights
Full kitchen demo and renovation. Need help w/design, demo, and install. Redo floors, cabinets, counters, backsplash, lighting, new appliances, put in dishwasher.
An old kitchen. The cabinets were cheap when installed 40 years ago and now they're falling apart. It's an L-shaped small kitchen, with a separate pantry (marked Closet on the floorplan).
The basics: all plumbing stays where it is, new floor tile, appliances and cabinets, the wall between kitchen and pantry comes down, and the fridge moves into the pantry.
Everything must go.
Scope of work
A bigger, more open space that allows for better flow/movement and more countertop space.
I want to move the fridge into the pantry area to increase the counterspace and allow for more people to hang out in the kitchen.
These pics are inspiration only, as we are at the beginning of the project.
What prompted you to join Sweeten? What situation or problem did you need solved?
We wanted to do a full renovation of our kitchen and bathroom and had no idea where to start, or how to find a reputable contractor.
How did Sweeten help make the process of getting your project done easier?
Sweeten was a great way to find someone trustworthy, and the process provided structure and guidance for an unknown and daunting process. Scouring the internet for good contractors is scary, and this took the guesswork out of it.
Did anything challenging or unexpected happen during your project and how was that successfully resolved by the team?
Alan was very on top of the timeline, and nudged me to make decisions quickly when necessary. He was also helpful in making certain decisions - materials, etc. - and solving various design issues that came up.
What did you value most about the firm?
Alan was very communicative, and always reachable by phone, email, or text. This was my first big renovation project, and he took it in stride. He also put me in touch with a great kitchen designer at Lowe's who helped me layout all the cabinets.
Were you positively surprised by anything (particular to working w/ the firm) during the course of your project?
The speed! Alan estimated that the work would take 5 weeks and he was wrapping up in the end of the 4th week, which was amazing.
If you were to recommend Sweeten to a friend, what would be your #1 reason for them to try it?
They have a roster of vetted professionals who come recommended by them! Also, through the process of speaking with the three options, I was able to compare the different bids and approaches and select the right guy for me!
Any other thoughts / criticism / notes on your experience with Sweeten or with your project outcome?
I can't wait to see the pictures!
