Brooklyn Based and Smallknot did a fantastic job hosting Lessons Learned the Hard Way, a story-slam featuring several of Brooklyn’s influential self-starters, held in the open-air Dekalb Market in downtown BK. We had an awesome time listening to the 5 minute anecdotes by our local small business leaders including Daniel Stedman of Brooklyn Magazine, Victoria Hagman & Christina Fallon of Realty Collective, and Jonathan Schnapp of up-and-coming Royal Palms Shuffleboard and our very own, founder of theSweeten, Jean Brownhill Lauer.
The turnout was great; tough lessons were shared and good friends were made!

Here’s a look at the venue while things were still getting set up. By the 7pm kick-off, the space was standing-room only!

We made sure not to miss the early happy hour, here’s Jean having a chat with friends from realtycollective.com. The founder, Victoria Hagman, is in the flowered dress.

Here, the leading ladies of Brooklyn Based, Founder/Publisher Nicole Davis (left) and Editor-in-Chief Annaliese Griffin (right) open the story-slam.

Woo hoo — go Jean! Her lesson: Always listen to your customers, you don’t have to heed just hear. And never listen to the haters! ;)
Thanks BB, Smallknot & the vendors of Dekalb Market for a great time — see you all at the next event!
